1st Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey believes that a family-oriented, interdisciplinary team approach is the most effective for student development. We offer on-site consultations with a pediatric physiatrist, pediatric orthopedist and developmental pediatrician. We also work closely with several rehabilitation equipment vendors and orthotists who provide in-school support. Specialized seating and adaptive equipment assessments are also available.

Wheelchair – Seating Clinic
We strive to provide seating which will keep the client as comfortable and properly supported as possible while maintaining their level of independence. Wheelchair seating evaluations as well as other adaptive equipment evaluation are performed by a physical therapist with an Assistive Technology Practitioner Certification from RESNA (Rehab Engineering Society of North America). Evaluations and fittings are performed in conjunction with the family and their DME provider.
Physiatry Clinic with Dr. JenFu Cheng
We offer a monthly in-school pediatric physiatry clinic headed by Dr. JenFu Cheng formerly of Children’s Specialized Hospital. The clinic uses a team approach with input from therapists, orthotists, equipment vendors and family members. The clinic offers a convenient way to manage a child’s healthcare needs, with thorough input and follow-up by staff.
Dr. Jenfu Cheng is board certified in pediatric rehabilitation medicine. He completed his medical studies at Rutgers NJ Medical School, following his undergraduate education at Princeton University and the University of California. He completed his residency and fellowships at Rugters, Kessler Institute, and Children’s Specialized Hospital. He was honored as Best Doctors for Pediatric Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and as Doctors Who Make A Difference from NJ Life.
Orthopedic Clinic with Dr. Alice Chu

The clinic offers a convenient way to manage a child’s healthcare needs, with thorough input and follow-up by staff.
Dr. Alice Chu is Chief of Pediatric Orthopedics at Rutgers Health. Dr. Chu trained in pediatric orthopaedics and plastics hand surgery. She completed her medical studies at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Her residencies and fellowships include Lenox Hill, NYU School of Medicine, Hospital for Joint Diseases, and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital.

Feeding Clinic with St. Joseph's Children's Hospital: Center for Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing
We are offer an in-house feeding clinic on a monthly basis in conjunction with St. Joseph’s Center for Pediatric Feeding and Swallowing. This clinic allows for a comprehensive team approach to evaluate feeding and swallowing disorders. Members from St. Joe’s team including a medical doctor, behavior analyst, speech pathologist in addition to our therapists and educational staff will work with parents and their child to create a plan to maximize safe nutritional intake. Feeding and swallowing disorders are often complex in nature and this team evaluation allows us to effectively address medical concerns, behavioral issues, oral motor deficits and positioning.
Transition Physiatry Clinic with Dr. Shoval
We offer a quarterly transition physiatry clinic for our former students following graduation to gain access to an adult physiatrist with Dr. Shoval. The clinic also includes physical and occupational therapy as well as an orthotist. This program allows us to achieve our mission of providing a lifetime of care to our students.
Dr. (Hannah) Aura Shoval is board certified in Physical Medicine in Rehabilitation as well as in Pediatric Rehabilitation and currently works at Children’s Specialized Hospital. She completed her medical studies at Tufts University. She did her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at New York Presbyterian Hospital where she served as chief resident. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric rehabilitation at Columbia Medical Center/Blythedale Children’s Hospital’s combined program. Dr. Shoval has done research in botox and alcohol injections for spasticity management and drooling, has published on these topics, and has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics. Her clinical interests include spasticity management, drooling, gait abnormalities, sports medicine, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and dance/performing arts medicine. Currently, she has been focusing on building a transition program for children/adult with neurological disorder to ensure there is continuity of care and access to medical care and equipment
